I take all the things Mrs VW is supposed to accomplish with a grain of salt, as all of these amazing attributes she has are described to a son by this woman’s future mother in law. Of course a mother wants this amazing (and probably a bit unrealistic) woman for her son. And while we can all aspire to be what our mother-in-law wants us to be, or what we want our daughters-in-law to be for our sons, we have to cut ourselves, and them, some slack…the only perfect person to ever walk this earth was Jesus. We can not expect to be, nor can we expect anyone else to be, perfect.

I used to resent her too! Then I realized that all these wonderful things she does? She did have help. She probably didn’t do them all in one day. This probably represents her lifetime. And it takes a lifetime to become skilled in some of these things. I need to show myself grace!

I’ve never figured out that sleep thing either. I NEED my sleep. Also, I’ve never noticed the servants in this verse before, that takes the pressure off a bit, and I don’t think appliances can count as servants.

Thanks for stopping by my blog the other day!

I was struck by the servant thing too. Then someone told me that I had servants too - dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, blender, vacuum, and a myriad of other electronic appliances that make things easier. Yet, I still struggle to get it all done. I still sometimes compare.

It's much better to look at the list as you have said, as not something to be accomplished in one day, but over a period of time. I know I could accomplish a lot more of someone were watching my children for me; but it's more beneficial for them (and me) if I do it.

Thanks for the reminder, J. I have a tendency to try to do too much, be way too hard on myself, and compare myself with my standards of perfect. As a working mom with 7 kids, there is no way I can have a spotless house and cook gourmet meals. I can't feel good over serving hot dogs or sloppy joes for dinner.

Comparing yourself only leads to anxiety, depression, and despair.

What a great post. I am a newer mother and sometimes set impossible goals for myself. You have to be comfortable in your own skin and never compare yourself to someone else. What works for you might not work for another person.
