There are some moms out there who rejoice that their children are meeting joyfully in the marriage bed.
I had one and I am doing what I can to be a sex positive, tactful, influence in my own young adult children's lives. However, I understand your comment these photos would be hard for some moms.

I pray that this mother and daughter can, down the road with the perspective of time under their belts, talk about this calmly and respectfully with open-hearts. It's tricky for some to learn how to evolve from being a parent of a youth to a parent of an adult.

Yeah, Keelie, excellent point. My wife's mother would have raised a ruckus if she'd known about the photos I took with the Instamatic camera. My own mom? Probably she'd have gently suggested that we burn the pics--which I did, anyway.

Both dear moms are now with Jesus. And since we'll be spirits until we get our new bodies in the resurrection, anyway, we'll be invisible, so photos won't work.

Just a few brief comments:

I personally know a lady who takes boudoir photos. Her husband is a pastor in a solid evangelical church. I don't think a man should be taking pictures of a woman in a negligee (or nude), but for a woman to take such photos, that's another matter.

I agree with everything you've said.

What to do with risque photos years later can be a problem. About 50 years ago I used an Instamatic (remember those) to take some nude photos of my wife, for which she posed happily. It was fun. But we later burned them in the incinerator. It was just too much to explain, had someone found them.

As a teen (1950s) I, my brother and some other guys used to skinny dip in a country brook, half a mile from the nearest house. I learned, too, of a couple of girls who did the same (with no boys around). These were "secrets" we never let our parents know about, even though no sex was involved. Then one day, when I overheard my dad and a neighbor talking, I learned that he and friends did the same in the 1930s. My point: there are things that are perfectly fine in controlled circumstances, but as the young bride who wrote you learned, some things you just shouldn't talk about with your mother. I'd dearly love to have one of those nude photos of my wife I took when we were first married, but having them around (we have children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who like to look at family pictures) is not worth the risk. But I would tell them, if they asked. My mom is with the Lord, so she won't ask!

I think one of the ways God prepares us for tribulation is by having us interact with other Christians. Indeed, some of the most stinging encounters you'll ever have are with your brothers and sisters; in this case, your own mother. In retrospect, perhaps when she asked to see the photo, maybe you should have told her, "No, it's only intended for my husband and me." Now that it's too late for that, I would suggest that you never mention it again, and if your mother brings up the subject, you should politely refrain from discussing it, unless she's ready to apologize for her hurtful overreacting. It's a similar situation to the New Testament case of eating meat that was sacrificed to idols. Nothing wrong with eating it--after all, it's only meat, and idols are nothings --but you don't need to broadcast it, because there are weaker brothers who will take offense and therefore have no need to know.

I didn't say it had anything to do with porn. I said I didn't know what was going on here, and then I gave a different example involving lingerie and a made-up story about porn. Maybe I worded something in a way you thought otherwise. But that was a totally different example, used only for illustrative purposes -- not to reflect on this situation.

When I first got married I wanted to do a photo shoot for my husband. He absolutely forbid me to do so because he misunderstood it to be akin to playboy. It took me 21 years to realize that it was ok... And so I sent him a flirty shot of just me via my cell. It's only between him and I as it should be. He did take a picture of me on a trip that I was terrified about...it was in the age of film that had to be processed. Ultimately, if it's between a husband and wife who the heck cares. I know my husband now realizes why I wanted those photos...and I STILL wish I would have done it.

I do think the mom freaked because of the third party involved...

Every deviant sexual response is not about porn...maybe the mother is highly conservative and wishes she would have done something similar; or she had no idea what boudoir pictures entailed and is just shocked ...(i dont know and that's probably just my pet peeve - porn is responsible for so much but what if there are other causes).

Other than that I agree with your answer - this request and response is an indicator of the change of the relationship dynamic. Her mom will always be her mom, but there are on the same playing field now so boundaries are necessary. I'd say this was a learning experience for both.
