Another comforting verse is I John 1:7 "but if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus His Son, cleanses us of all sin"
Walking in the light can't mean sinless perfection as the last part of the verse says we are cleansed of all sin.

His blood continously cleans our sins as we focus on keeping Him Lord.

I John is a refreshing little book to show we have a Savior that loves us in spite of any type of sin, sexual or other. Other verse in there include but are not imited to: 2:1 - 2, 3:1 - 3, 3:19 - 22, 4:19 and 5:11 - 13.

Do these points differ at all between sin before marriage as opposed to sin after marriage?

Forgive yourself, new truths, act like you should are great points. The hard part is understanding that something doesn't have to define you...

In reply to <a href="https://hotholyhumorous.com/2016/01/11/qa-with-j-how-can-i-forgive-myself-for-my-past/#comment-47112">Amanda</a>.

This post was not written to victims of abuse, but those who have sinned in their own past. Although I don't see how choosing to engage with your husband is "abuse all over again." I know women who have recovered from past sexual abuse -- what they seem to have in common is getting good Christian mentoring or counseling, speaking honestly with their husbands about their fears, and going very slowly and carefully with them in control of how things unfold to awaken different, better feelings in sexual activity.

I hate that anyone ever has been abused, because the pain victims continue to feel -- even in God-sanctioned marriage -- is truly awful. But a close friend of mine also attests that the scale tipped for her at some point when sexual intimacy with her husband became the definition of sex in her head, not what some horrible person did to her years and years before.

I'm so glad you have an understanding husband. I agree there are other ways to be intimate, although I hope you're including physical intimacy in there -- at least as a goal. And I am saying a prayer for you. May the Lord who is close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18) wraps you in His arms, comfort you with His love, and strengthen you and your marriage. Blessings.

Well I'm afraid "acting as if" doesnt work if your sexual past has been abusive. That would be abuse all over again. Tipping the scale also doesnt work because positiv experiences are not possible. Just fear, disgust, shame and feeling used. The only thing that helps is the security that you are loved so much that you dont have to let yourself be used in order to "earn" that love. Thankfully my wonderful husband is by my side through all the pain and therapy. There are other ways to be intimate.
