I wanna add to that. Good and great sex comes with both, communicate in and out of the bedroom and understanding each other’s bodies and how they are different.
When we better understand how each other sexuality works we are armed with a different perspective that can take away the pain of feeling misunderstood and serve each other differently.

Overall, both people have to work together on this to make it mutual. When it seems one sided it creates an imbalance.

I feel that the “anything goes” message is below the surface in a lot of marriage blogs. I think many will only thrive sexually if they do feel there is a sense of security and safety within the marriage which an “anything goes” mindset cannot provide.

Good question! The Song of Solomon is not erotica, which is a graphic genre of literature or art intended to titillate. Rather, it is an erotic love story, with euphemistic language and romance. It is, I suppose, a matter of degree, but degrees matter.

It would be erotica if we had a play-by-play of the couple’s lovemaking, but we really don’t. We have poetic descriptions, romantic passages, and celebration of marital intimacy.

I would add “sex is important”. Maybe is kind of implicit in point one but I know couples and preachers that doesn’t think sex is relevant for a healthy marriage. They think it is good but if the couple doesn’t want it it’s ok. They preach or say sex is not relevant, that marriage would get more benefits if husband and wife pray or read bible or serve at church instead of spending precious time having sex. The problem (for me) is the idea of Instead. A marriage get benefits from reading the Bible but also from having sex because in the bed is when we practice and live the very first “commands” from genesis 1 and 2, among other benefits.
I guess in Christian circles we need hear words like relevant, important, crucial, relevant, essential, priority, related to sex life in a Christian marriage.
