I’ve been writing a lot about prayer on Saturdays here on my blog, with the hope and encouragement that you’ll spend more time in prayer with God — specifically about your marriage and your marriage bed.
This past week, a Catholic friend of mine shared a video that caught my eye, and I thought it was so good I wanted to share it with y’all. I don’t know this priest, but his name is Father Mike Schmitz and he apparently has a YouTube channel, a podcast, and more. But I loved his points about the Power of Prayer:
What if you tapped into that power of prayer so that:
- You become a cause agent for positive change in your marriage and marriage bed?
- You are changed to become a better partner, companion, lover?
- You deepen your relationship with your Heavenly Father?
Aren’t those worthy goals to make prayer a priority this coming week?
A fourth “what if?”:
What if dedication to prayer enabled God to send other people to you who are in need of his help?
The second and third hand power of prayer can’t be underestimated.
Thank you so much for this encouragement.
I have noticed discontentment creeping into my marriage and I’m sure you won’t be surprised to hear that my time spend in prayer is also lacking.
Agreed. Can I add a fifth, related “what if”? If we would pray for others we don’t even know, we just might find our own prayers answered, maybe even people praying for us and we don’t even know it! I’ve tried this second and third hand prayer, and I swear it’s helped our marriage. The thing is, when we pray for someone, we’re actually praying for many. It’s the simple law of association; everybody knows somebody.
